History- Two puppies were left in a yard in a neighborhood. The homeowner took them to the shelter to see if they had chips - they did not. They hung ... (Read More)flyers in hopes of finding the owner but after 2 weeks they realized they could no longer keep them. So they set up at a store to sell them. One of our volunteers just happened to be walking by and asked if they would consider surrendering to rescue. There were a few other people looking at them but one man was asking if they would get large enough to be guard dogs- he already had dog houses to tie them up to (so she freaked out as that is no life for any dog) and paid the lady for them both. So now we have Pixie and Trixie who are looking for their happily ever afters.. Temperament- Very playful, love attention, and love everyone. Energy Level- Typical high puppy energy Dogs/Cats- They love the cats in their room, but still too small to meet the other dogs.. Housetrained- They are currently in an x-pen with puppy pads These little girls are too cute. They play nonstop but also love to cuddle and be held.. We are not sure what their breeds are as we don't have parents but we believe they might be Border Collie X Lab mixes. But again we don't know as we never saw any parents since they were just dumped in a yard. Trixie is a little bigger looks more Lab and Pixie is smaller and looks more like a small Border Collie. Please be aware puppies are a lot of work - they need a lot of training and socialization to grow into well behaved adult members of the family. As puppies they will sometimes mouth/bite and scratch in play. Children should be taught how to be gentle with all animals and to understand that puppies aren't trying to be mean but might accidentally scratch or bite them. If you have a sensitive child/children and wanting to get a pet for them maybe consider an adult that has been around children- they are a lot less work as well. Otherwise there might be a lot of tears and nonsense when the child doesn't understand why the puppy scratched or nipped them. So please be fully aware and do your research if you are considering a puppy. Adoption fee $250 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need. History- She was at a shelter in protective custody when she was about 4 months old. She was very frightened so was very reactive and charging. She was deemed unadoptable ... (Read More)due to aggression. She was transferred to our program at the request of the staff as she was very loving and sweet with them- it was just strangers she was reactive with. She came to us and learned all about other dogs and met several people who would come out to meet other dogs. She is such a wonderful girl full of life and love. She would love a couch of her own to cuddle with her loved one on. She loves playing fetch and one of her favorite toys is the large water bottles- I think they hold 10 gallons maybe?? But anything thrown is awesome for her, she has perfect recall and will come right back when I call her over, she also loves snorkeling in her water bucket. Temperament- Very sweet, playful, and happy. Energy Level- Typical high energy puppy but very well behaved and smart Dogs/Cats- So far being raised with other dogs and cats doing great.. As she gets older we are seeing that she does do much better with male dogs than females so her ideal family will have a male or no other dogs. House trained- Crate trained and house trained. This sweet girl would make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a sweet, loving, energetic little girl to join their family. She loves attention and gets so happy when you talk baby talk to her. She is absolutely adorable and very sweet. You have to meet her to truly appreciate how wonderful she is. Moonlight would excel in obedience as she is amazingly smart and focused on her person. She is sensitive so you can't really raise your voice at her or she will hide and seeing a giant girl like this hide is pretty heartbreaking.. LOL She is adorable though Adoption fee $300 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. History- This sweet girl was just another stray roaming in a bad part of a rural town. She was picked up by animal control and taken to their facility. She was dirty, underweight, ... (Read More)and had a bad case of fleas. The shelter held her for the required length of time and then put her up for adoption. She was adopted quickly because she is so cute and sweet but then returned the next day for an unknown reason. They put a plea out to rescues as they were full and were going to start having to euthanize for space. We had just had some adoptions so went in and had some dogs transferred to us. We brought her in and noticed the fleas and set her up in an isolated area while the flea medication worked. Then she broke with a bad case of kennel cough and stopped eating. She is now finally going to go for her medical and then will start looking for her happily ever after.. She looks older but her teeth are pearly white- we believe it is due to stress, malnutrition, and a hard life but with good nutrition and such she is starting to look a lot better. Temperament- She is very sweet and loving. Loves to burrow in blankets and will dance on her hind legs for attention. Energy Level- Very mellow. Loves to just cuddle with us on the couch under a blanket watching tv. Dogs/Cats- Good with other dogs. Good with cats. Housetrained- She is house trained. she is using a dog door most of the time and when she doesn't have access we just put her out every few hours and she does great. This little girl is so cute.. We don't know why her family didn't care enough to keep her safe or even go to the shelter to bail her out. But we are glad she is with us now. She is an amazingly sweet little girl with a heart of gold. She will make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a cute little baby to share their home with. History- Stray who ran out of time at an already full, rural shelter. She was transferred to us and got adopted to what we thought was a perfect home. However a couple months ... (Read More)later they called and said she could hardly stand and their vet said it was hip dysplasia and we needed to pay for her surgery. We told them they could return her which they did. We sent her up to our vet for x-rays and it turns out she was broken- more than likely hit by a car to cause that much damage. Our vet was shocked they left her in that condition as he said the break had been done about 3-4 weeks prior. So he did a femoral head removal and she has been healing. She is doing great and runs and plays with the other dogs, she does favor that leg and I assume always will but she is healthy, happy, and can get around great. She will probably never be a jogging partner but walks and stuff would be fine. Temperament- Very sweet and playful. She loves attention, playing, and toys. Energy Level- Regular level of energy. Since she has had surgery and is pretty much all healed up she enjoys running and playing with the pack however we have noticed that she gets tired quickly.. Daphne is a worried girl - always has been- but she loves, loves, loves love and attention. She does mimic ... (Read More)smiles so that is super cute. She is just an absolute doll. These dogs have all been very loved and well cared for but with losing their mom they need to find new families to join. Temperament- Very sweet and loving.. She is shy when first meeting someone and will bark at strangers sometimes when they come into the house but once they sit down and give her a treat she warms up quickly. She loves attention. She doesn't like men for some reason so will bark and growl at them but again they too can win her over with treats and love. She is scared to be picked up but will come to you for lots of love and climb into your lap on the couch. Energy Level- Mid level energy. Dogs/Cats- Good with other other dogs and good with cats.. House trained- House trained and using a dog door but also knows how to ring a bell hanging on a door to let you know she needs out. Daphne is just super cute and her smiling just makes her that much cuter.. I love this girl.. She is a very easy dog and very quiet- just a real sweet little girl who will make a wonderful addition to any home. She does love to play fetch and will run after a toy but then stop and just look at it and come back to you- never really fetching it.. But she gets super excited to play fetch- in fact most of her excited photos are done because we are playing fetch (though we were the ones to go get the toy she would run after it and show us where it fell- lol). She is just super sweet, no accidents in the house ever, great tiny guard/alert dog- a very easy almost perfect girl if you can get past her not liking men and not liking to be picked up. She had been in custody for about 6 months and was just too excited for ... (Read More)people to handle when they would take her out of her kennel.. One of the supervisors asked us to take her so she could run as she just needed to stretch out and play.. Sure enough we brought her into our program and she probably ran for about an hour just all over the property-- she was so excited to be out. Fast forward- she got adopted and started jumping the woman's fence- she was bored and the lady decided she was no longer going after her and instead got another dog. She is the perfect combination of social butterfly and laid back couch potato.. She is a perfect girl as far as socialization and being a perfect companion however she does have a few faults.. She is terrified of fireworks/gunshots and thunder and she can jump my 6' wood privacy fence with no problem.. However when she does jump I can meet her at the end of the ditch bank and open my car door and she will hop right inor she will go visit a neighbor who might be home.. She loves car rides!!! This dog would be a perfect traveling companion-- maybe for someone who lives in an RV or a truck driver who needs a companion.. This would be right up her alley-- nothing better for her than being out and about..     Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 03/01/2015 Size - About 50 lbs History- Taken to a small rural shelter as a puppy somehow she was skipped over time and time again-- no adopter took her home, no rescues picked her up, nothing. She grew up alone, in a shelter hiding under a dog bed. Then one day we started seeing posts on FB as the shelter staff and volunteers scrambled to try and get someone to notice her. Her time was up and she had been skipped way too many times. We said ok we would take her in- nobody had mentioned the extent of her fearfulness- so ... (Read More)imagine the surprise when we got her home and she ran to the far corner of the property and would just bark at us. We would sit out there forever with her on the porch and then go inside and hang out on the couch. She grew very loving and is such a playful girl-- she absolutely loves toys!!! Her issue is it will take time to earn her trust- someone will have to be committed to keeping her on leash and having her with them all the time until she bonds. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Will stand at the far end of a yard and bark and bark. However, once she bonds she is a sweet goofy lovebug. She loves playing with toys and hanging out on the couch. She is such a different dog once she trusts and loves someone. Energy Level- a little higher energy- she loves to play wrestle with the other dogs (she is with Jacques, Piquin, and Caeser). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but she would really love to have her own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs, however she is a dominant dog. Good with my cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no accidents at all. She is crate trained as well. This girl is so beautiful, fun, and athletic but does enjoy cuddling on the couch. She absolutely loves, loves, loves toys and will pile them all up together. She is too cute and puppy like with me and my daughters but very weary of strangers so will bark and bark at them. Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 11/03/2015 Size - About 50 lbs History- Piquin and Czr were scheduled to go to a rescue out of state however when the rescue backed out the pups were left with the transporters in Albuquerque and no place to go. A plea went out for rescue and a rescue said yes they would take them but then they turned around and told the foster to take them to a Humane Society where they would possibly be euthanized. So the foster started contacting the rescues she knew and we said ok. They came here and we realized they were not socialized as ... (Read More)much as we had hoped, however once they bond with someone they are amazing dogs. Czr loves attention and being held - he is a big baby who loves being babied. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Czr would not do good in a busy home with a lot of visitors. He is very serious and calm. However, once he bonds he is a big ol' lap dog-- he loves laps, cuddling on the couch, and hugs. Once he has bonded he is very sweet, playful, and happy who loves his toys. He does look intimidating because he is so serious but he is a shy guy who just wants love.. Energy Level- Mid to lower level energy- loves to play chase and wrestle with the other dogs (he is with Jacques, Taffy, and Piquin). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but he would really love to have his own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no mistakes at all. This guy is so handsome, loving, and gentle with his family. However, gaining his trust will take some time and treats. He is one of those dogs that should initially be kept on leash as he bonds with his new owner. Once he bonds he is the most amazingly beautiful, happy, goofy boy ever. He is stocky but not large. He would love a family to love and call his very own who he can sprawl out on the couch with. He will make someone an amazing pet as he bonds strongly and becomes an amazing protector. Adoption fee $100 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. Mom was an American Staffordshire Terrier and dad was another Staffordshire Terrier or a Rottweiler (nobody knew for sure). The puppies were scheduled to go to an out of state rescue however they could not get their health certificates as they tested positive for parvo. They were hospitalized and eventually got better, another rescue offered to take them but never followed through with getting them adopted, they then came to us. They ... (Read More)loved their foster mom but were not socialized a whole lot as they had been so sick. Fast forward and they are very standoffish and weary of strangers, however once they form a bond they absolutely love, love, love their people. Energy Level- a little higher energy- she loves to play wrestle with the other dogs (she is with Jacques, Taffy, and Caeser). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but she would really love to have her own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no mistakes at all. She is not crate trained. This girl is so beautiful, compact, and fun-- she is very athletic . However, gaining her trust will take some work. She is one of those dogs that should initially be kept on leash as she bonds with her new owner. Once she bonds she is the most amazingly beautiful, happy, goofy girl ever who loves laps and kisses. Approximate DOB 10/01/2015 Size - About 50 lbs History- Purchased as a puppy by someone living in an apartment. However as she got bigger the landlord saw her and and threatened to evict the owner. So she was taken to a small rural shelter and surrendered. She stayed there for a while however the shelter was filling up and owner surrenders don't get long. A plea went out to rescue- we said yes we can take her and they ... (Read More)transferred her to us. She is a very sweet, high energy girl who needs an active family. Temperament- Very sweet, playful, and energetic. Great guard dog, loves sitting in laps, loves her toys and chews.. Energy Level- High level energy- Would be a great hiking, biking, or running partner. She will need an active family or a treadmill and playtime to wear her out. She should also attend training classes to keep her mind busy so she doesn't become destructive due to boredom. Dogs/Cats- She is not good with other dogs. She might have never been around them before but no matter how many times we have tried letting her have friends it ends up not working out. She doesn't seem to mind the cats. We have cats and she sees them as she is running around the house but has never went after them or anything.. She will say hi and then just move on.. House trained- House and crate trained perfectly. This sweet girl would make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a beautiful dog who can keep up. We all know those people that are constantly pushing themselves to new heights- hiking, running, etc.. She needs a family like that.. or one that can make her work -- even if it is obedience and treadmill or flirt pole work.. She is just a fun loving energetic girl who would absolutely blossom with an active family.. Beautiful, smart, athletic, and loving what else can one want?? She is a wonderful girl-- keep in mind she crates well - we just give her an antler or stuffed kong to keep her busy.
