Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 07/01/2016 Size - Smaller medium History- Picked up as a stray, with a small female we named Nala, in a rural town and left unclaimed. When they ran out of time and the shelter ran out of space an urgent plea was sent out to rescue. We accepted them into our program and some wonderful volunteers transported them to us. It always amazes me the beautiful, sweet, loving dogs we get in.. Nala has since been adopted but happy, playful Simba is still looking for his happily ever after.. Temperament- Very playful, sweet, and ... (Read More)outgoing. He is also a wonderful little guard dog as he does have a very dominant personality. Energy Level- Mid level energy. Dogs/Cats- Good with other other dogs (however he can be dominant and pushy when it comes to attention so he might do best as an only dog that has play dates).. He seems fine with the cats. House trained- House trained and using a dog door Simba is very playful to the point of being a mouthy puppy.. He would do best in an active but structured home. He does get protective once he believes he is home so should have a crate for when strangers go over. Once he trusts someone after just a few minutes he does do much better and wants to be a best friend. He should attend some training as I really don't think whoever had them was very structured. But he is super smart and very motivated to learn for those he loves. He is a small fluffy guard dog who loves walks, watching tv, and playing. Due to his mouthiness we will not place him in a home with small children. Adoption fee $250 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. She had been in custody for about 6 months and was just too excited for ... (Read More)people to handle when they would take her out of her kennel.. One of the supervisors asked us to take her so she could run as she just needed to stretch out and play.. Sure enough we brought her into our program and she probably ran for about an hour just all over the property-- she was so excited to be out. Fast forward- she got adopted and started jumping the woman's fence- she was bored and the lady decided she was no longer going after her and instead got another dog. So now she is back with us and doing great just needs her forever home.. Temperament- Very sweet with everyone. She loves new people and new dogs -- she would make an amazing greeter for any public place.. She is happiest when she can see as many people as possible to keep her mind active.. Energy Level- Mid level energy. Dogs/Cats- She loves to play with the other dogs.. They can run and wrestle non-stop.. She gets along with the cats and kittens very well with no issues at all.. She just loves everyone and everything... Housetrained- She is great in the house.. Hose and crate trained perfectly.. No accidents ever.. Tinkerbell would make a wonderful apartment dog for someone who is active- someone who jogs or goes hiking or likes to spend time downtown in public hanging out.. She absolutely loves people and so visiting lots of people in the evening and sleeping in an apartment all day would be right up her alley!!! She is the perfect combination of social butterfly and laid back couch potato.. She is a perfect girl as far as socialization and being a perfect companion however she does have a few faults.. She is terrified of fireworks/gunshots and thunder and she can jump my 6' wood privacy fence with no problem.. However when she does jump I can meet her at the end of the ditch bank and open my car door and she will hop right inor she will go visit a neighbor who might be home.. She loves car rides!!! This dog would be a perfect traveling companion-- maybe for someone who lives in an RV or a truck driver who needs a companion.. This would be right up her alley-- nothing better for her than being out and about.. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 03/01/2015 Size - About 50 lbs History- Taken to a small rural shelter as a puppy somehow she was skipped over time and time again-- no adopter took her home, no rescues picked her up, nothing. She grew up alone, in a shelter hiding under a dog bed. Then one day we started seeing posts on FB as the shelter staff and volunteers scrambled to try and get someone to notice her. Her time was up and she had been skipped way too many times. We said ok we would take her in- nobody had mentioned the extent of her fearfulness- so ... (Read More)imagine the surprise when we got her home and she ran to the far corner of the property and would just bark at us. We would sit out there forever with her on the porch and then go inside and hang out on the couch. She grew very loving and is such a playful girl-- she absolutely loves toys!!! Her issue is it will take time to earn her trust- someone will have to be committed to keeping her on leash and having her with them all the time until she bonds. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Will stand at the far end of a yard and bark and bark. However, once she bonds she is a sweet goofy lovebug. She loves playing with toys and hanging out on the couch. She is such a different dog once she trusts and loves someone. Energy Level- a little higher energy- she loves to play wrestle with the other dogs (she is with Jacques, Piquin, and Caeser). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but she would really love to have her own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs, however she is a dominant dog. Good with my cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no accidents at all. She is crate trained as well. This girl is so beautiful, fun, and athletic but does enjoy cuddling on the couch. She absolutely loves, loves, loves toys and will pile them all up together. She is too cute and puppy like with me and my daughters but very weary of strangers so will bark and bark at them. She will make a wonderful companion for someone wanting to really save a dog who needs a happily ever after..     Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 05/01/2016 Size - She is about 9 lbs. History- This sweet girl was just another stray roaming in a bad part of a rural town. She was picked up by a good Samaritan and taken to the local shelter. He was worried as she kept getting close to the road and he thought she would get hit by a car. Well she was there for about a month in a small cage as the big kennels were completely full. One day we went in as the shelter was overflowing and needed to make some space. When we saw her she broke our hearts- her nose was bleeding from ... (Read More)trying to escape, she had tears in her eyes, and she just wouldn't stop shaking- when we talked to her she wagged her tail and when we opened her cage she jumped into our arms. We needed a foster home though- well it so happens one of our regular fosters texted me that she had a spot open - I sent her a picture of her and she said absolutely bring her over she has a place here. Yay!!! We scooped her up and she is now at the Canine Bungalow with Melba in Los Lunas waiting for her happily ever after. Temperament- She is very sweet and loving Energy Level- Pretty mellow Dogs/Cats- Good with other dogs. Should be fine with cats.     Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 09/01/2016 Size - She is about 6 lbs. History- She was picked up as a stray.. She was dehydrated and under weight. But the shelter vets and staff got her stabilized and she stole everyone's hearts.. She is special in that she does have Hydrocephalus so her head is much larger than it should, her eyes are spaced further apart, she has soft spots in her skull, she may in the future develop seizures and may have a shorter life span, and she doesn't gauge her surrounding well- so is more cautious than most dogs. Due to her ... (Read More)condition she will not be placed in a home with other dogs or children as any type of trauma caused by either can make her condition worse. She will be seeing our vet for a second opinion as well but for now this is what we were told and have observed. Temperament- She is very sweet and can be playful but tires quickly so then goes to her bed. Energy Level- Pretty mellow Dogs/Cats- Good with other dogs but she will should not interact with those that are rambunctious or bigger than her due to the soft spots in her head. Trauma to the head can cause more fluid buildup and possibly seizures. Housetrained- She uses puppy pads This little girl is so cute.. She wins everyone over with her sweet personality.. She is absolutely darling and loves to play with her soft little toys.. Shew would make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a sweet, loving, special baby to love.. We are hoping the 2nd opinion we get on her is better and at that point we will update her bio..
