She had been in custody for about 6 months and was just too excited for ... (Read More)people to handle when they would take her out of her kennel.. One of the supervisors asked us to take her so she could run as she just needed to stretch out and play.. Sure enough we brought her into our program and she probably ran for about an hour just all over the property-- she was so excited to be out. Fast forward- she got adopted and started jumping the woman's fence- she was bored and the lady decided she was no longer going after her and instead got another dog. So now she is back with us and doing great just needs her forever home.. Temperament- Very sweet with everyone. She loves new people and new dogs -- she would make an amazing greeter for any public place.. She is happiest when she can see as many people as possible to keep her mind active.. Energy Level- Mid level energy. Dogs/Cats- She loves to play with the other dogs.. They can run and wrestle non-stop.. She gets along with the cats and kittens very well with no issues at all.. She just loves everyone and everything... Housetrained- She is great in the house.. Hose and crate trained perfectly.. No accidents ever.. Tinkerbell would make a wonderful apartment dog for someone who is active- someone who jogs or goes hiking or likes to spend time downtown in public hanging out.. She absolutely loves people and so visiting lots of people in the evening and sleeping in an apartment all day would be right up her alley!!! She is the perfect combination of social butterfly and laid back couch potato.. She is a perfect girl as far as socialization and being a perfect companion however she does have a few faults.. She is terrified of fireworks/gunshots and thunder and she can jump my 6' wood privacy fence with no problem.. However when she does jump I can meet her at the end of the ditch bank and open my car door and she will hop right inor she will go visit a neighbor who might be home.. She loves car rides!!! This dog would be a perfect traveling companion-- maybe for someone who lives in an RV or a truck driver who needs a companion.. This would be right up her alley-- nothing better for her than being out and about.. Adoption fee $150 includes spay, rabies vaccine, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchip, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 03/01/2015 Size - About 50 lbs History- Taken to a small rural shelter as a puppy somehow she was skipped over time and time again-- no adopter took her home, no rescues picked her up, nothing. She grew up alone, in a shelter hiding under a dog bed. Then one day we started seeing posts on FB as the shelter staff and volunteers scrambled to try and get someone to notice her. Her time was up and she had been skipped way too many times. We said ok we would take her in- nobody had mentioned the extent of her fearfulness- so ... (Read More)imagine the surprise when we got her home and she ran to the far corner of the property and would just bark at us. We would sit out there forever with her on the porch and then go inside and hang out on the couch. She grew very loving and is such a playful girl-- she absolutely loves toys!!! Her issue is it will take time to earn her trust- someone will have to be committed to keeping her on leash and having her with them all the time until she bonds. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Will stand at the far end of a yard and bark and bark. However, once she bonds she is a sweet goofy lovebug. She loves playing with toys and hanging out on the couch. She is such a different dog once she trusts and loves someone. Energy Level- a little higher energy- she loves to play wrestle with the other dogs (she is with Jacques, Piquin, and Caeser). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but she would really love to have her own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs, however she is a dominant dog. Good with my cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no accidents at all. She is crate trained as well. This girl is so beautiful, fun, and athletic but does enjoy cuddling on the couch. She absolutely loves, loves, loves toys and will pile them all up together. She is too cute and puppy like with me and my daughters but very weary of strangers so will bark and bark at them. She will make a wonderful companion for someone wanting to really save a dog who needs a happily ever after.. History- This sweet girl was just another stray roaming in a bad part of a rural town. She was picked up by a good Samaritan and taken to the local shelter. He was worried as she kept getting close to the road and he thought she would get hit by a car. Well she was there for about a month in a small cage as the big kennels were completely full. One day we went in as the shelter was overflowing and needed to make some space. When we saw her she broke our hearts- her nose was bleeding from ... (Read More)trying to escape, she had tears in her eyes, and she just wouldn't stop shaking- when we talked to her she wagged her tail and when we opened her cage she jumped into our arms. We needed a foster home though- well it so happens one of our regular fosters texted me that she had a spot open - I sent her a picture of her and she said absolutely bring her over she has a place here. They fell on hard times and had to move to a smaller place which didn't allow the dogs. They are all brothers and very sweet and easy going overall. We will be ... (Read More)adopting them all out separately though.. Temperament- Update: This cute guy was recently returned after being in a home for about 8-9 months. I am not sure what happened but he came back pretty aggressive towards strangers. Upon saying that he is is still super loving and sweet with his loved ones and once he makes friends and trusts someone. The family who had adopted him said he turned aggressive all of a sudden- well we all know that that doesn't just happen. It appears that he has been badly teased and to some extent abused when he would finally react. So they basically adopted a super sweet dog and teased/abused him until he felt he had no choice but to react and become aggressive to defend himself. We are working on his issues but whoever adopts him would have to be willing to crate him when people go over. He would make a phenomenal little guard dog for someone who is scared living alone or what not and wants someone in the who they know will protect them.. This person will also need to understand that though Han Solo loves us he does not show well. Possible growl during the first interaction and so someone will have to be able to come out and spend some time with him and show him that they aren't going to hurt him. I still think he is perfect for the right person as he is a super loving, sweet, playful, and very loyal dog once he trusts you not to be mean or hurt him. We have also now found since being in a foster home that once properly introduced he loves new friends that his foster family approves us. Of course once he loves you then it is hard to imagine him ever being mean to anyone. Energy Level- Average- he loves to cuddle and watch tv but also loves playing with soft toys and going for walks. Dogs/Cats- Gets along with all the other dogs and cats. Housetrained- House trained and crate trained This sweet little boy is a doll.. He was perfect for shaving and adjusted the quickest to being in the rescue.. He loves attention and will make a wonderful addition to any family willing to gain his trust. He would do wonderful joining a family who wants a small guard dog in the house to cuddle with and be protected. He is super smart, is a good judge of character, wonderful protector, and just an amazing little boy who would blossom in the perfect home.. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 11/03/2015 Size - About 50 lbs History- Piquin and Czr were scheduled to go to a rescue out of state however when the rescue backed out the pups were left with the transporters in Albuquerque and no place to go. A plea went out for rescue and a rescue said yes they would take them but then they turned around and told the foster to take them to a Humane Society where they would possibly be euthanized. So the foster started contacting the rescues she knew and we said ok. They came here and we realized they were not socialized as ... (Read More)much as we had hoped, however once they bond with someone they are amazing dogs. Czr loves attention and being held - he is a big baby who loves being babied. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Czr would not do good in a busy home with a lot of visitors. He is very serious and calm. However, once he bonds he is a big ol' lap dog-- he loves laps, cuddling on the couch, and hugs. Once he has bonded he is very sweet, playful, and happy who loves his toys. He does look intimidating because he is so serious but he is a shy guy who just wants love.. Energy Level- Mid to lower level energy- loves to play chase and wrestle with the other dogs (he is with Jacques, Taffy, and Piquin). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but he would really love to have his own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no mistakes at all. This guy is so handsome, loving, and gentle with his family. However, gaining his trust will take some time and treats. He is one of those dogs that should initially be kept on leash as he bonds with his new owner. Once he bonds he is the most amazingly beautiful, happy, goofy boy ever. He is stocky but not large. He would love a family to love and call his very own who he can sprawl out on the couch with. He will make someone an amazing pet as he bonds strongly and becomes an amazing protector. The second woman became scared of Oreo after Oreo got a sticker in her foot and when the woman went to take it out she put her mouth on her hand as though she was going to bite. After that the woman was too scared to handle her- she never broke the skin she was scared and in pain and reacted. Oreo loves her foster family and has never offered to bite any of them however they have been very patient with her to gain her trust and she is now very loving to everyone in the home. American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 11/03/2015 Size - About 45 lbs History- A litter of puppies were turned into a rural shelter. Mom was an American Staffordshire Terrier and dad was another Staffordshire Terrier or a Rottweiler (nobody knew for sure). The puppies were scheduled to go to an out of state rescue however they could not get their health certificates as they tested positive for parvo. They were hospitalized and eventually got better, another rescue offered to take them but never followed through with getting them adopted, they then came to us. They ... (Read More)loved their foster mom but were not socialized a whole lot as they had been so sick. Fast forward and they are very standoffish and weary of strangers, however once they form a bond they absolutely love, love, love their people. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Piquin would not do good in a busy home with a lot of visitors. She is very happy and higher energy than her brother. Once she bonds she is a sweet goofy little lovebug.-She loves attention and playing with toys. But you do have to gain her trust, once you do she is awesome. Energy Level- a little higher energy- she loves to play wrestle with the other dogs (she is with Jacques, Taffy, and Caeser). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but she would really love to have her own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no mistakes at all. She is not crate trained. This girl is so beautiful, compact, and fun-- she is very athletic . However, gaining her trust will take some work. She is one of those dogs that should initially be kept on leash as she bonds with her new owner. Once she bonds she is the most amazingly beautiful, happy, goofy girl ever who loves laps and kisses. She would love a family to love and call her very own who she can sprawl out on the couch with. She will make someone an amazing pet as she bonds strongly and becomes an amazing protector. Due to her fearfulness of strangers she will not be placed with young children. Adoption fee $100 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need.     Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 05/01/2014 Size - She is about 10 lbs. History- This sweet girl was just another stray roaming in a bad part of a rural town. She was picked up by animal control and taken to their facility. She was dirty, underweight, and had a bad case of fleas. The shelter held her for the required length of time and then put her up for adoption. She was adopted quickly because she is so cute and sweet but then returned the next day for an unknown reason. They put a plea out to rescues as they were full and were going to start having to ... (Read More)euthanize for space. We had just had some adoptions so went in and had some dogs transferred to us. We brought her in and noticed the fleas and set her up in an isolated area while the flea medication worked. Then she broke with a bad case of kennel cough and stopped eating. She is now finally going to go for her medical and then will start looking for her happily ever after.. She looks older but her teeth are pearly white- we believe it is due to stress, malnutrition, and a hard life but with good nutrition and such she is starting to look a lot better. Temperament- She is very sweet and loving. Loves to burrow in blankets and will dance on her hind legs for attention. Energy Level- Very mellow. Loves to just cuddle with us on the couch under a blanket watching tv. Dogs/Cats- Good with other dogs. Good with cats. Housetrained- She is house trained. she is using a dog door most of the time and when she doesn't have access we just put her out every few hours and she does great. This little girl is so cute.. We don't know why her family didn't care enough to keep her safe or even go to the shelter to bail her out. But we are glad she is with us now. She is an amazingly sweet little girl with a heart of gold. She will make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a cute little baby to share their home with.     Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 04/01/2016 Size - About 17 lbs History- It all started with just one Facebook post-- an angry young lady who found a bald sickly dog on the side of a road.. Another person saying yes that they would foster once we put it on our volunteer page (we seriously have some amazing foster parents in our program!!)... A shelter who cared enough to help us round them up - they would text or call us as soon as another fitting the description was picked up or surrendered to them.. A wonderful vet clinic who has seen us at the drop of a ... (Read More)dime every time we have gotten a call that another one from this group was found (three were dumped on the side of busy roads throughout Valencia County - Los Chavez, Belen, and Tome and one was taken to the shelter).. We now have 4 dogs in treatment for demodex and as you scroll through the photos on our facebook page you will see how much they have changed.. Hermione was the worse -- she was scabbed over and full of infection, she could barely move, and Melba at The Canine Bungalow was very worried she wouldn't make it... She checked on her constantly -- putting her food and water and meds in the bed with her so she didn't have to get up (she was in so much pain she could barely move).. Thank you to those who have donated for their care-- this is where your money goes when you donate-- dogs like this who just need a little more time, care, and love.. We have 2 girls Hermione and Bellatrix and 2 boys Draco and Lucius.. Temperament- Very sweet, playful, and happy. Loves everyone- would be perfect for taking out in public, hanging out, and meeting new people.. Energy Level- Higher level energy- very athletic. Other Dogs/Cats- He loves to play chase and wrestle with the other dogs. Would be a great hiking, biking, or jogging partner. He is great with the cats, irritating as he thinks they love him as much as he love them, but gentle.. House trained- He uses a dog door This very happy energetic boy would make a wonderful addition to any energetic family wanting a sweet, loving, athletic boy to join their family. He loves attention, playing, and cuddling with his loved ones- though he is one of those dogs that is almost always going and has a hard time actually lying down as he thinks everyone needs attention.. We will be updating his photos soon-- he and Hermione in foster with Melba at the Canine Bungalow so I know they have grown their hair in but haven't had a chance to re-do their photos.. But will do soon..
